What Maple Ridge yards need
Lots in Maple Ridge run bigger than in the Tri-Cities, from newer homes in Silver Valley and Albion to acreages out toward Thornhill and Whonnock. That usually means longer fence runs, driveway gates, wide paver driveways and new lawns.
The hillside streets in Silver Valley often need retaining walls, and Maple Ridge sets a lower bar for them than its neighbours do (see the rules below). We work across Pitt Meadows too, next door.
- Fences and driveway gates in Maple Ridge
- Long cedar, vinyl, steel and chain-link fence runs, with walk gates and double driveway gates.
- Paver driveways in Maple Ridge
- Wide interlocking paver driveways, patios and walkways on a compacted base.
- Sod and artificial turf in Maple Ridge
- New sod lawns, artificial turf, and river rock beds.
- Retaining walls in Maple Ridge
- Block and timber retaining walls, steps and raised garden beds.
Before you build in Maple Ridge
These are the City rules that most often decide how tall a fence or wall can be. Rules change, so check with the City for your lot, or ask us when you text.
- What counts as a retaining wall
- Any wall holding back more than 0.6 m (2 ft) of soil, and the City asks for a permit for these. That’s a lower bar than in Coquitlam or Port Moody.
- When an engineer is needed
- Walls over 1.0 m (about 3 ft 3 in), stepped walls less than 3 m apart, and walls that hold up a house need an engineer’s design.
- Wood walls
- Timber retaining walls have to sit back from the property line by at least their height plus 600 mm.
- Fence height
- Set by Maple Ridge Zoning Bylaw No. 7600-2019. In Pitt Meadows, it’s Zoning Bylaw No. 2505. Check the limit for your lot before a tall fence goes up.
From the City of Maple Ridge Retaining Wall Guide (revised August 2026). Pitt Meadows has its own rules, so check with the City for your lot.

Hard Hat Holligans were exceptional! I called them to replace the garden bed at my home, and they came out the very next day. They did an outstanding job from start to finish. They were professional, reliable, and offered very fair pricing.
